Pupils and teachers at Malvern Primary School in Huyton are still reeling from their success after being crowned winners of the National School Song Competition earlier this month. The school and its song “Where Greatness Grows” beat off stiff competition from across the UK to pick up this coveted prize.
Fourteen pupils from the school travelled to Hertfordshire to perform the song in front of a celebrity judging panel. After hearing all 12 shortlisted entries Malvern was announced as the winner – picking up a cash prize and now being given an opportunity to professionally record their winning song.
Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council and a Governor at Malvern Primary was invited along to the school for a special performance. He said: “I was absolutely blown away when I heard the school had won this national competition – what an achievement and what a wonderful experience for the young people involved.
“Hearing the song performed live was really special and learning more from the children about the meaning behind the words and the importance of their school values was really inspiring. It’s fantastic to witness their success but even more heartwarming when you hear the children talk so passionately about the importance of being kind – to ourselves and others. A great philosophy and clearly a fantastic inspiration for their song.”
