The Mayor of Knowsley and Cabinet Member get tested in Knowsley

by Cathy Sheel

Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, along with Cllr Frank Walsh, Mayor of Knowsley, visited the Volair leisure centre in Kirkby today which is one of the three COVID-19 testing facilities for people who are not displaying symptoms.

Following their tests, the VIP visitors were given a tour of the testing centre, including a behind the scenes view of the test processing operation.

People can have COVID-19 without knowing they have it. Regular (weekly) testing will identify people who have the virus and importantly, they can then self-isolate and reduce the further spread of the virus in our communities.

The test is quick and easy to do. It is self-administered and only takes a few minutes. Results are generally turned around in half an hour.

The three testing sites are at the Volair leisure centres in Halewood, Huyton and Kirkby. The opening hours up to Christmas Eve are Monday to Friday 9am until 6pm and 10am until 4pm at weekends. Festive opening hours can be found here.

Cllr Frank Walsh, The Mayor of Knowsley, added “The testing sites are really well organised and you are guided through the process. It is quick and easy to do and I’d encourage residents to come along and get tested.”

If you receive a positive result, you and people in your household, support bubble and close contacts will need to self-isolate for 10 days.

If you receive a negative result, you are encouraged to be tested regularly (weekly) to ensure you do not, unknowingly, have the virus.

Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, added “It’s important that people are tested regular to ensure they are not unknowingly spreading the virus. Weekly testing is advised as your result is only accurate at that moment in time. Our residents have been playing their part and following the rules in order for our rates to reduce. We need to keep up the good work. Let’s get tested Knowsley!”

The three testing facilities at Volair leisure centres in Halewood, Huyton and Kirkby are for people without symptoms. No appointment is needed.

If you are displaying any of the COVID-19 symptoms – high temperature, new / persistent cough, loss of taste or smell – please book a test through www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or ring 119.
