Support still available for those living with a loved one experiencing addiction

by Nicola Appleton

During lockdown Emerging Futures, a not for profit organisation, supported Knowsley residents who live with a loved one who has issues with drugs or alcohol. The free support is still available and Knowsley now has two dedicated coaches.

The two new Family Coaches, Kenny and Joanne, use their lived experience to give support and work with families to overcome their loved one’s addiction.

Every Friday those who need advice and support can join a Zoom Family Matters meeting from 1pm to 2pm. The meetings are open to all and allow the chance to speak with Kenny or Joanne to help find a positive path through difficult times.  To access this support please email Kenny Higgins or Joanne Park at knowsleycoaching@emergingfutures.org.uk.

For those who wish to remain anonymous and not join the group sessions they can call, text or WhatsApp Kenny 07395725156 or Joanne 07722152948 to organise one on one support.

Trish McKitterick, National Training and Quality Lead, from Emerging Futures said:

“We host these sessions across the UK and have given hundreds of people the support they need during these challenging times.  We’re delighted to have Kenny and Joanne join the team and allows us to expand the support we’re able to give Knowsley residents.”

Cllr Sean Donnelly, Knowsley Council Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said:

“We understand the challenges of living in lockdown with loved ones who are experiencing issues with drugs and alcohol – and although lockdown measures are easing these challenges still remain. The Emerging Futures support network and our drug and alcohol treatment service Change, Grow, Live offers advice for communities who need it and I’m delighted our residents continue to have access to these valuable services.”

Support is also available for those who are experiencing issues with drugs and alcohol. Please contact Change, Grow, Live Knowsley on 0151 482 6291 or email Knowsley@cgl.org.uk if you or a family member would like support. The service offers support to anyone experiencing issues with drugs or alcohol in a friendly and non-judgemental way.  Assessments can be completed over the phone, and you will receive a treatment package that is tailored to your individual needs. Change grow live Knowsley deliver a range of interventions from one to one support, health assessments, opiate substitute prescribing, alcohol support and detox options and a range of group and workshop intervention which is currently delivered through their online services.
