Support payment for Knowsley taxi drivers

by Jonathan Kearney

Eligible Knowsley-licensed taxi and private hire drivers can now apply for a one-off support payment from Knowsley Council.

Knowsley-licensed drivers who were licensed as of 23 March 2020 and live in the Liverpool City Region can apply for a £100 grant by completing a short online application form.

If approved the grant will be paid directly into the applicant’s bank account within seven days.

The grants are funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, who committed £1.5m of funding to support local taxi drivers.

In a joint statement with other City Region leaders, Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, said:

“We recognise the hardship experienced by our taxi drivers, who have seen their trade seriously affected by the Coronavirus restrictions.

“We know this fund can only make a small contribution but wanted to make this available as a gesture of support for a sector that has been hit hard without adequate support.

“As leaders and mayors, we are continuing to press the Government for financial support packages that work for everyone who has seen their livelihood affected by Covid-19 restrictions.”
