Strategy approved to support a dementia-friendly borough

by Lisa Bennett

At last month’s Knowsley Health and Wellbeing Board, the new Dementia Strategy for Knowsley 2026-2031 was approved.

The strategy was commissioned by Knowsley Council and following a competitive tender process, Alzheimer’s Society led on the development of the strategy.

It sets out an evidence-based approach to improving outcomes for people living with dementia and their carers, including reducing health inequalities, promoting early intervention and prevention, and supporting people to live well and independently for longer.

The strategy was developed following engagement with stakeholders and people with lived experience, carers, professionals and community organisations alongside analysis of local need and best practice and has been developed in response to a growing number of people living with dementia in Knowsley and the increasing demand on health and care services.

Cllr Del Arnall, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Chair of the Knowsley Health and Wellbeing Board, said “This strategy sets out our shared ambition to improve the lives of people living with dementia, their families, and carers across our borough.

“Through this strategy and our successful partnership arrangements, we will deliver deliver a co-ordinated, person-centred approach with a clear ambition to create a borough where people living with dementia feel supported, valued, and included.

“I’d also like to thank the Alzheimer’s Society for their work on the strategy’s development which has included engagement with residents, professionals and community groups, to ensure that the strategy is aligned to local needs.

“By building dementia-friendly communities, raising awareness, and tackling stigma, we can help ensure that people remain connected, independent, and respected.”
