Stepping out at Halewood Park

by Cathy Sheel

Replacement boardwalks and pathways are the latest improvements to welcome visitors to Halewood Park.

Knowsley Council is working on a range of improvements at the park, including repairing and replacing all of the boardwalk areas, repairing main pathways, and tree works

This work, funded by the council and developer contributions, is currently underway and is due for completion in February, so please look out for alternative walkways.

In recent months Halewood Conservation Volunteers and Knowsley’s Greenspace Rangers have been working together to ensure Halewood Park is an attractive and welcoming place for its thousands of visitors.

Local businesses have also been helping to spruce up the park, including employees from Astra Zeneca who have been planting trees for the Queen’s Green Canopy Jubilee celebration project.  They helped clean up and cut back overgrown areas, carried out woodland management tasks ranging from pond clearance, footpath maintenance, and putting up bird and bat boxes for habitat creation.

Tree planting at Court Farm Woods has also been replacing the loss of trees that were unlawfully removed from the site. This is part of ongoing works to improve the woodland and habitat diversity.

There’s also a regular programme of Greenspace Ranger events and fun activities at parks. In the lead up to Christmas, these include free festive events at both Halewood Park and Court Farm Woods, including Christmas carols and craft sessions.

Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, Cllr Shelley Powell said: “Knowsley’s parks and greenspaces are fantastic places to visit and we work closely with local volunteers and businesses to make sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy and ensure we’re all making a difference to the greenspaces we love.”
