Award winning actor, producer and screenwriter Stephen Graham has sent an uplifting message direct to ‘kids in Kirkby’ during an interview following his latest award win at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles USA.
Stephen picked up the Best Performance by a Male Actor (in a limited series made for television) award for his role in ‘Adolescence.’
In an interview following the Golden Globes ceremony, Stephen gave a special mention to his hometown of Kirkby, addressing directly young people growing up there now by saying: “For every little kid in Kirkby who has a dream…. Please…. Don’t give up on it. Dream – because anything is possible!”
Stephen was born and raised in Kirkby before going on to achieve incredible success in TV and film.
Cllr David Lonergan, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “To hear someone as well-known, well-loved and well-respected as Stephen Graham sharing such a positive message to our young people really is quite special – and I hope they were listening.
“Stephen’s career and success has been quite remarkable and we are incredibly proud of him as a former Knowsley resident. More so than that, we are really grateful that he is using his platform to inspire the next generation – showing clearly that determination and talent knows no boundaries and that children and young people in Kirkby (and the rest of Knowsley too) really can go on to achieve wonderful things.”
