Significant progress is being made on the new retail development in Kirkby town centre.
Despite the coronavirus pandemic and the period of lockdown which stalled many construction projects earlier in the year, this major development has continued to progress.
Installation of the steelwork for the new 45,000 sq ft Morrisons superstore has begun this week, complementing the steelwork already installed on the site including the new six-pump petrol station, Home Bargains store and KFC restaurant.
Work started on the retail development on 9 December 2019, just a matter of weeks after the Council purchased the town centre from St Modwen.
Cllr Tony Brennan, Knowsley Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “Despite the challenging environment I’m delighted to see this significant progress on this development which will help transform Kirkby’s retail offer. The installation of the steelwork on the new Morrisons superstore is a major milestone for this project and I look forward to seeing further progress of our retail development over the coming weeks.”
Morrisons are due to stock the store in the Spring of 2021 once the construction work has finished, with the new store due to open in the Summer 2021.
