Staff returning to work or unable to work from home? Register for free rapid tests

by Guy Murphy

Knowsley Council is urging all businesses with 50 or more employees, who are either unable to work from home or returning to work as restrictions ease, to register for FREE lateral flow tests.

The test kits are free of charge until 30 June 2021 but firms must have registered by 31 March in order to claim.

Businesses can register online for the test kits https://www.gov.uk/get-workplace-coronavirus-tests

Lateral flow tests are self-administered and provide a result usually within 30 minutes. By testing staff, firms can identify those who are carrying the virus but not showing symptoms and reduce the risk of an outbreak within the workplace.

Businesses with fewer than 50 employees are asked to make use of local testing centres. Knowsley has a number of SMART testing sites across the borough and further details can be found here.

If any employee has symptoms they should isolate at home and book a test either  by calling 119 or online https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “I would urge all Knowsley businesses who are eligible for the free testing kits to sign up.

“Alternatively, if you work for a business that employs 50 or more people then I would ask you to speak to your management team about maximising convenient testing for you and colleagues.

“Testing for those without symptoms helps us break the chain of transmission, reduces the risk of an outbreak and helps us stay on the road to recovery.

“Our SMART Testing sites are also supporting those who are unable to work from home and I would encourage employees to get tested at least twice a week.

“Testing will help us keep our businesses open and support us on our return to normality.”
