Spreading #StreetSmiles to support our waste teams

A dazzling display of smiling sunny smiles is about to appear across Knowsley as residents show their appreciation for the work our waste and recycling key workers.

The #StreetSmiles campaign is calling on people to create a ‘smiling sun’ and display it in their windows, brightening the day of the refuse collectors and other key waste and recycling workers.

The campaign is also encouraging residents and crews to share the pictures on social media, for the staff working hard behind the scenes in non-public facing roles.

Launched by waste management company Veolia, the campaign is backed by Knowsley Council, which is still managing to run its full waste collection service during the Covid pandemic.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “A smile is always appreciated, so by creating a ‘smiling sun’ to go in your window for the whole street to see, you’ll be showing your support for these key workers and recognising the importance of the crucial work they do at this time.

“And if you see key workers from your refuse collection and street cleansing teams, give them a wave from a safe distance. Let them know how much you value their efforts to protect public health.”
