Transport company invests £2m in Knowsley base

by Gemma Melling

Sovereign Transport has invested £2m to create a new, bespoke-built depot in Knowsley, to help meet the growing demand for palletised freight services across the region.

The firm, part of Palletways, has relocated its 55 staff and 30-strong fleet to four-acre site at Knowsley Business Park. The new premises will help staff process more than 25,000 pallets per month with plans to increase monthly volumes by almost 9,000 pallets in 2017.

Stephen Radcliffe, managing director said: “The move into new premises comes on the back of increasing demand for freight services in the region along with significant growth plans for the depot and Palletways network.

“We’re confident that our new facility will help us to continue to deliver a first class logistics service this year and for many more to come.”

The investment is also further demonstration of the confidence business has to invest in Knowsley, and the ideal location of Knowsley Business Park for business in the logistics and transport sectors.

A growing transport business

It caps off a fantastic year for Sovereign Transport, who were recently shortlisted for the Knowsley Business and Regeneration Awards. It also recently won the Volume Growth Sales Award 2016 at Palletways’ annual sales conference.
