Sorted! Find out what happens to your recycling

by Gemma Melling

Have you ever wondered what happens to your rubbish after it goes into the recycling bin? Then now is your chance to find out.

Take a free guided tour of our local recycling plant

The Gillmoss Materials Recovery Facility, near Fazakerley in Liverpool, is offering free guided tours for people across Merseyside and Halton to discover how over 100,000 tonnes of recyclable waste is segregated for processing into new products.

The tours in September and November will give people a chance to see behind the scenes and discover how a range of manual, optical and mechanical techniques turn the region’s waste into a resource. Afterwards there will be time to explore the Recycling Discovery Centres where there will be refreshments and information to help you recycle correctly.

The Gillmoss Materials Recovery Facility is operated by resource management company, Veolia on behalf of the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority.
