Residents interested in local history are invited to get involved with Huyton with Roby Historic Society.
Established in the 1960s, the society meets on the second Friday of each month – between March and November – at the Old School House in St Johns Rd, Huyton. Sessions start at 2pm and include a guest speaker, business meeting, followed by tea/coffee and a raffle.
This year’s talks will cover: The First World War, Curious tales of St Helens and Knowsley, Street names of Liverpool and The Mines.
Other dates in the society’s diary include:
Friday, 13 June: annual trip to St Michael’s Church in Huyton, featuring a guided tour by the Rev John Davis, followed by tea/coffee. Previous trips have included Strawberry Fields, St George’s Hall and the Anglican Cathedral .
October: Annual Lunch at the Crofters Public House in Huyton.
November: Annual General Meeting.
Membership of the society is £20 per year, or people can attend on a casual basis for £3 per session.
