As part of Knowsley Council’s ongoing regeneration programme in Huyton, the former B&M unit on Cavendish Walk is being transformed into a vibrant, modern library and community space.
The new facility will provide residents with a welcoming and accessible space for learning, accessing digital services and offering many events and activities, while bringing a prominent vacant unit back into active use. By creating a high-quality destination in the heart of the village centre, this project will help to increase footfall, support local businesses, and contribute to a more attractive and thriving high street for residents and visitors.
The ground floor will include the library, whilst the upper floor will include Knowsley Works (providing employment and training support to residents) as well as creating office space.
The new library will include exciting spaces for children of all ages, and adults alike, as well as the usual support and services from your local library including a vast array of books, support to get you online, access to PCs, photocopying and printing.
Existing activities and groups will also move into this new space, as well as new events and initiatives also being delivered from the new space.
Now, the Library Service would like to hear your views to help to inform the internal space. You can do this by completing a short online survey or you can also pick up a feedback postcard in Huyton Library.
Cllr Jayne Lonergan, Cabinet Member for Resources, said: “We know that our libraries are very much well-loved and well-used spaces so it’s really important that people who use the library tell us what they like about the library and what they think could be improved. We want to deliver a space that is aligned to their needs so please do take a few moments to feedback and help to shape our plans.”
You can complete the online survey here. The consultation opens on Monday 17 August and runs until 5pm on Monday 14 September 2026.
This project is being funded through the Brownfield Infrastructure Land Fund via Homes England.
The new Huyton Library is expected to open in the Spring next year. The current library on Civic Way remains open as usual whilst these works are ongoing.
The current Huyton Library will be used as office space to support the council’s wider development plans of it’s 7 acre site – known as St Michael’s Place. You can read more here.
