Congratulations to all the Early Years and Primary School settings and Childminders who have successfully completed training between January and June 2025 to deliver supervised toothbrushing as part of the Cheshire and Merseyside All Together Smiling programme.
A total of 180 settings across Cheshire and Merseyside – 22 of which are located in Knowsley – are now delivering supervised toothbrushing programmes across Cheshire and Merseyside, supporting over 11,000 children.
Ian Ashworth, Director of Population Health, NHS Cheshire and Merseyside said: “Investing in supervised toothbrushing is an example of how we can prioritise prevention to improve long-term health outcomes. In areas where childhood tooth decay is high and families face real challenges, this work is essential in reducing health inequalities and giving every child the best start in life.”
Dr Yvonne Dailey, Lead Consultant Dental Public Health, NHS England North West said: “Supervised toothbrushing with fluoride toothpaste is a simple but effective way of protecting children’s teeth and preventing tooth decay. The evidence shows this works, especially when introduced early – creating healthy toothbrushing habits to last a lifetime.”
Jordan Brown, All Together Smiling Programme Manager, Beyond Children and Young People’s Transformation programme said: “It has been fantastic to see so many settings coming on board and committing to making supervised toothbrushing part of their daily routine. A huge thanks goes to all the teams and settings involved in the programme whose efforts will make a real difference to children’s oral health, within communities where the need is greatest.”
All Together Smiling is an evidence-based supervised toothbrushing programme, supporting children aged 2-7, being offered to eligible settings across Cheshire and Merseyside.
