SEND Youth Voice

by Nicola Appleton

Vibe are inviting young people age 11-17 with SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disability) to their youth programme where they can make a difference.

Once a month young people are invited to the face to face sessions (or can join remotely if preferable) where they can meet other young people with SEND, gain new skills, and discuss issues they are facing. Importantly, as a group they can then develop ways of taking action and finding ways to have their voice heard on the issues that matter to them. It could be anything from making a video to creating an artwork – it’s entirely up to the group.

Guest speakers from different organisations will also join to talk about opportunities for young people and the power of youth voice and also hear from other young people who have been involved in similar programmes.

Cllr Margaret Harvey, Knowsley Council Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said:

“It’s fantastic that Knowsley’s young people who identify as having SEND have a place where they can meet new people and discuss issues that matter to them. Significantly their issues can then be channelled into action. I wish the new cohort the best of luck and look forward to seeing what they achieve over the coming months.”
