Secondary school offer day

Friday, 1 March 2019 is secondary school offer day.

If you live in Knowsley and you’ve applied for a place at secondary school for your son or daughter starting this September, you will hear which place they have been offered on 1 March (or in the coming days, depending on how you applied).

When will I be told which school place my child has been given?

If you applied online, you will be notified by email on 1 March, followed by a letter in the post in the coming days. Please ensure you check your spam and junk mail folders.  If your email hasn’t come through, you can log on to the parent portal to see which school has been allocated to your child.

If you applied by post your offer letter will be posted to you on 1 March – meaning that it should arrive in the following few days.

I’m happy with my child’s offered place, do I need to do anything else?

If you live in Knowsley and have been offered a Knowsley school place which you are happy to accept, you do not need to formally accept the place.  However if you no longer require the place you should contact a member of the school admissions team to let them know.

If you live in Knowsley and the offer is for a school in another authority that authority may require acceptance, you should contact the school directly for more information.

If the school offered is in Knowsley the school will write directly to you soon with a welcome letter. At that point they may ask you to sign and return a form to accept the offer.

I am not happy with the place my child has been allocated. What should I do?

If you are not happy with the place offered to your child you can contact the school admissions team and request a change of preference application.  Where places are still available then an offer could be made to your child.

If your child is not offered a place at one of their first preferences they will receive a letter giving more details about the appeals process. If he or she is refused a place at a Knowsley secondary school, they will be automatically placed on a waiting list and may move up and down this list as other applicants choose whether to accept places at this or other schools.

You can contact the school admissions team via email – schooladmissions@knowsley.gov.uk – where possible, you will receive a response within three working days.

I have not yet had my email or letter. What should I do?

If you applied online through the Knowsley website you should receive an email sometime on Friday 1 March, 2019 confirming which school your child has been offered a place at.  You will also receive a letter in the post.  If you have not received an email by the end of the day please contact a member of the admissions team.  Please ensure you check your spam and junk mail folders.  If your email hasn’t come through, you can log on to the parent portal to see what school has been allocated to your child.

If you applied by post your child’s school place offer will be sent back by post. This will only be posted out on secondary school offer day – 1 March. Please allow a few days for it to arrive. If it has not arrived by Wednesday, 6 March, please contact the school admissions team who will need to ask you some security questions before confirming your child’s offer. Please note that the team will not be able to advise you about your child’s place by telephone before Wednesday 6 March.

I’m trying to call the school admissions team but can’t get through

On the day that school offers are sent to parents and in the following days the school admissions team does receive a large number of calls and you may experience some problems getting through.  If you are able to email your query to schooladmissions@knowsley.gov.uk and your contact details (including telephone number) the team will get in contact with you as soon as they are able to.

How do I appeal for a school that I have been refused a place at?  Who should I contact?

If you have been refused a secondary school in Knowsley and wish to appeal this decision, you should contact Knowsley school directly and ask for a set of appeal papers.

If you have been refused a school in another authority you will need to initially contact that local authority for details on their appeals process. More information regarding the appeals process will be supplied with the offer letter.
