School given thanks for support with road project

by Laura Johnston

All Saints Catholic School in Kirkby was presented with a cheque for £500 recently, as a thanks for their support with the major transport improvement scheme happening in the area.

Tarmac and King Construction donated the money after completing the County Road Project to upgrade the junction around County Road, Hall Lane and Old Rough Lane which benefits motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

While the work was going on over the past four months, pupils and staff used temporary traffic lights and were required to concentrate more when crossing roads.

Tarmac and King Construction were really pleased with how the school supported the work and listened to safety information during assemblies. All Saints Catholic School also led a social media campaign to promote road safety around the area.

Mr Brian Murphy, Operations Manager at Tarmac, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to make improvements that give long term benefits to everyone at All Saints and other road users. It’s great we have such a positive relationship with the school and we’re pleased we could give back as a thanks for their support. We’re looking forward to continue working with the school and talking to pupils interested in careers in construction, offering advice and guidance.”
