Knowsley road closures you need to know about


Road closures are usually in place to facilitate all different types of work including sewer repair work, sewer reconfiguration, carriageway repairs and grounds maintenance.

Here are the details of current road closures and diversion routes to help you plan your journey:

North Parade, Kirkby –  Monday 1 June 2020 until Monday 1 February 2021

Essential drainage works, are planned on a section of North Parade, Kirkby Monday 1 June 2020 until Monday 1 February 2021. In order that the works can be undertaken quickly and safely the road will be closed from its junction with St Chads Drive for a distance of 40 metres in a southerly direction.

The diversion route for vehicles affected by the North Parade road closure is via an alternative temporary access road.

Cronton Road / Foxes Bank Lane Improvement Scheme – 18 January 2021 – August 2021

Road closure’s are in place to facilitate the construction of a new roundabout to improve capacity at the junction. This is one of a number of schemes to provide improved access to the proposed Halsnead Garden Village Development Site.

To facilitate construction Prescott Road will be closed for the duration of the works and the proposed diversion route will be via Prescot Road, Alder Lane, Cronton Road and vice versa.

Traffic management during construction of the improvement will be via multi-way temporary traffic signals.

On approach to the works the existing speed limit on Cronton Road will be suspended and a reduced temporary speed limit of 30mph will be introduced.


Cherryfield Drive, Kirkby –  Monday 31 August 2020 ongoing

In order to reduce traffic speeds as to encourage active travel, KMBC proposes a 20mph zone on Cherryfield Drive, Kirkby, from its junction with Webster Drive to its roundabout junction with Valley Road.

It is anticipated that the temporary 20mph zone will be in place from Monday 31 August 2020 until such a time as the scheme is reviewed and a decision is made whether or not to introduce the Traffic Regulation Order on a permanent basis.

There is no diversion route applicable for this Temporary Traffic Regulation Order.


Alchemy Way, Kirkby – Wednesday 28 October 2020 ongoing

It has been reported that a section of Alchemy Way and the surrounding area is being used for fly tipping by local residents. In order to deter fly tipping in the future, the section of road identified below has been closed to all vehicular traffic:

  • Alchemy Way, Kirkby – from its junction with Platinum Court for 100 metres in a northerly direction.

The proposed traffic restrictions are shown here. There is no diversion  route applicable as Alchemy Way is a no through road.


Prospero Place, Prescot

The closure at Prospero Place has been extended until 30 April 2021. A temporary one way system is in place.

The diversion route associated with this closure is via Church Street, High Street, Warrington Road, Kemble Street, Market Place, Prospero Place and vice versa.

The road closure and bus station closure are in place to facilitate construction work for The Shakespeare North Playhouse. Bus services will be diverted and full details are available on MerseyTravel’s website.
