Save the date for some Serious Nonsense!

by Emily Maguire

Get ready for some serious fun as the Serious Nonsense Festival returns to Prescot on Saturday 10 August as part of the celebrations for Knowsley’s 50th anniversary!

Silliness takes over the town centre for one day only,  so be sure to mark the date in your calendar and don’t miss out!

The theme of this year’s festival is ‘All at Sea’ so visitors can expect to see giant seagulls, hapless holiday makers and performing pirates among a host of other nautical-themed entertainment roaming the streets of Prescot.

The marketplace stage returns too, hosting a line-up of fantastic musical performances that span the musical genre’s for all ages to enjoy.

As well as walkabout performances in the town, there is a programme of ticketed events taking place at the Shakespeare North Playhouse throughout the day and evening.

There are children’s author workshops featuring acclaimed writers Jude Lennon and Simon Adepetun. Simon will be reading from his novel ‘The Curse of the Deadly Marshmallows’ and Jude brings her beloved characters Lamby and Flossie to the theatre to read from her picture book ‘Pirate Lamby and his Woolly Crew’ as well as host a writing workshop for 5-11 year olds.

Author and activist Paul Burston brings his award-winning literary salon Polari back to the Shakespeare North Playhouse, with some special guests.

And renowned impressionist and comedian Jon Culshaw will grace the main stage at the Playhouse for an evening in conversation with Lady Ann Dodd.

The Serious Nonsense Festival takes place from 11am – 6pm on Saturday 10 August across Prescot Town Centre. Tickets for the Shakespeare North Playhouse events will go on sale soon.
