Can you save money on your internet bill through a social tariff?

by Guy Murphy

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is urging Knowsley residents to check if they’re eligible for a social tariff, with 95% of eligible people paying too much for their broadband.

With bills rising last month, many residents will be looking to make savings where possible to ensure their money goes as far as possible. Social Tariffs usually offer broadband (internet) packages for between £10 – £25 per month.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility differs between providers so residents will need to confirm eligibility directly. However, those in receipt of the following benefits are usually eligible:

  • Jobseeker’s allowance
  • Universal credit
  • Employment and support allowance
  • Disability allowance
  • Pension credit
  • Personal independence payment

How much does it cost to switch?

It often costs nothing to switch! If your provider offers a social tariff, you can switch at any time for free.

There might be some small setup costs, but your provider will tell you before you sign up.

If you want to leave your social tariff, there will be no fees or chargers to leave before the end of your contract.

How do I get a social tariff?

Simply call your provider, ask if they offer a Social Tariff and ask to switch!
