Safety measures completed on Cumber Road in Whiston

by Gemma Melling

Road safety improvements have been completed on Cumber Lane in Whiston.

The works will also promote pupil safety too as they are located outside of St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Academy.

A new signalised crossing has been installed, along with 120 metres of resurfacing works and road markings repainted highlighting the school entrance and the dedicated bus stop, discouraging parking in these highlighted areas.

The works have been completed as part of the council’s ongoing highways improvement and maintenance programme, promoting road safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said “We have listened to our residents and prioritised the safety of road users and pedestrians on this busy road.

“The installation of the signalised crossing will help to promote safety, supporting pedestrians and pupils to cross the road safely as well as encouraging drivers to slow down.”

The Cumber Road scheme has been funded by the Active Travel Fund provided by Active Travel England in partnership with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
