Road safety knowledge “crucial” for primary school leavers

by Jonathan Kearney

Knowsley’s Road Safety Team will be engaging with hundreds of primary school children throughout this week for the annual Crucial Crew event.

Crucial Crew supports young people’s transition from primary to secondary school and Year 6 pupils are invited to come along to learn essential skills and knowledge that would help them when they move to secondary school from September.

Over 600 Year 6 pupils will attend the multi-agency event at Haydock Racecourse, to learn more about road safety ahead of their transition to secondary school.

They will investigate an immersive collision scene to help understand how driver and pedestrian behaviour can impact each other.  They will also discuss the dangers of distractions when using the roads and how they contribute to/cause collisions.

Other agencies in attendance will support the children to become more aware of personal safety, crime prevention, responsible use of public transport, and how to actively contribute to their own health.
