Restoring Bowring Park – an update

by Laura Johnston

Preparations for the restoration of the historic Bowring Park in Huyton are now underway.

Temporary accommodation for the golf reception and contractor’s welfare units have now been delivered to the site, with the appointed contractor due to start restoration work on the existing buildings and gardens in November.

This work is being made possible by a £2 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and will include a new café, community space, meeting facilities, offices and a refurbished golf reception area, in addition to the restoration of the historic gardens, a new outdoor event space and car park.  The golf course will remain open throughout the works.

The work is expected to be completed in Spring 2019.

Knowsley Council recently stepped in to keep the course open following the collapse of the private sector company which ran it.
