Knowsley residents are being reminded about the importance of getting their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Across the Liverpool City Region, a number of people have failed to return for their second appointment and have not rearranged their appointments, meaning they are without the full benefits of vaccination.
The first dose of the vaccine gives good protection from Covid-19 after around three or four weeks, but the second dose is needed for longer lasting and maximum protection from the virus.
Booking an appointment is quick and easy. You should book through the same route that you booked your first appointment – either through the national booking portal www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or by ringing 119 or by ringing your GP.
Councillor Christine Bannon, Cabinet Member for Health, said “The vaccine programme in Knowsley has been very successful with the majority of those eligible having had their first jab and the majority of those able to have both doses having done so.
“There is now a different variant in circulation, the Indian variant, so it’s essential that our residents have both doses of the vaccine to ensure they are as protected as they can be.
“I would urge anyone who has missed their second appointment to contact their GP and get booked for their jab as soon as possible.
“It is only by having both doses that you will have full protection from COVID-19.”
