This Zero Waste Week (2 – 6 September) we’re encouraged to recycle more and reduce the waste we produce.
Recycling is a really simple and effective way we can reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill. It’s good for the environment by keeping valuable resources in circulation – that’s known as the ‘circular economy’.
Ways to reduce waste
Recycle More: In Knowsley, all paper, card, tin cans and plastic bottles can go into the grey bin. Other items – like small electrical appliances (irons, hairdressers, mobiles), large electrical appliances (washing machines, fridge freezers), tv’s and monitors, lightbulbs, textiles can be taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (tip) Find a Recycling Centre and Book an Appointment – Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (merseysidewda.gov.uk). Most supermarkets also have facilities for recycling batteries and plastic bags.
Make sure the right items go in the grey recycling bin: Make sure your recycling is left loose and not placed in plastic bags before going into the recycling bin. Placing incorrect items in recycling bins, such as nappies or textiles can ‘contaminate’ or ruin entire loads of recycling. Visit Recycling isn’t Rubbish! – RecycleRight to help you ensure the right items are recycled. Find out what to put in each bin.
