Cars built in Halewood have helped Jaguar Land Rover achieve their best ever UK monthly sales figures with one car sold every two minutes throughout March.

More than 4,200 people work for Jaguar Land Rover in Knowsley, where the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport are both made.

The Halewood-built models were top sellers for the company last month, with customers snapping up 6,048 Evoques and 5,787 Discovery Sport vehicles.

Investment in Knowsley

Production at the Halewood Factory has trebled since 2010, and so has the number of staff employed there. More than £500m has been invested in the plant making it one of the City Region’s largest private sector employers.

Edward Perry, Chair of the Knowsley Place Board, said: “It is fantastic to see the latest figures published by Jaguar Land Rover this week – their achievements are quite remarkable and we are very proud to be home to such a successful company and international brand.

“We have a long standing reputation as a manufacturing base here in Knowsley and it is fantastic to see that skill and expertise still evident today.

Raising global awareness of Knowsley

Edward continued: “JLR are a fantastic asset for our place not just in terms of putting Knowsley firmly on the international map but also for the opportunities they offer to the local workforce across our area and beyond.”

Jeremy Hicks, Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director said: “This has been a fantastic March for Jaguar Land Rover, with very strong performance from both brands, cementing our position as Britain’s largest automotive manufacturer.

“Yet again, our success has been spearheaded by continued customer demand for the all-conquering Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport. In the UK alone, Jaguar sold almost 6,000 vehicles in March and increased sales by 76% in the first quarter.”
