PureGym set to open Kirkby

by Guy Murphy

PureGym will open their 9,779 feet2 unit in Kirkby Town Centre tomorrow (3.00pm on Wednesday 7 December 2022) – next to the large Home Bargains store and on a prime site on the new development in the town.

In advance of the opening, Councillor Tony Brennan, Regeneration and Economic Development Cabinet Member, and Councillor Jayne Aston, Resources Cabinet Member, had a “sneak peek” visit to see the new facilities which will enhance the offer in Kirkby.

Knowsley Council carried out a public consultation in March 2020 which asked “What makes a good town centre?”.  As well as improved retail facilities, people also requested places to eat and drink and new leisure offers.

The latest PureGym leisure offer is a welcome addition to the town and will also help to support Kirkby’s growing population and the increasing number of visitors into the Town Centre.

PureGym has over 300 sites across the UK and the majority are open 24/7.  As well as a fully equipped gym, PureGym also offers a broad range of fitness classes within the membership price.

Councillor Tony Brennan, Regeneration and Economic Development Cabinet Member, said: “I was delighted to visit PureGym today, along with Councillor Jayne Aston, to take a look at the new facilities in advance of the official opening to the public tomorrow.  PureGym is located in a prime location in the Town Centre and there is lots of free parking.  Residents, visitors, and people employed elsewhere in Kirkby Town Centre can fit in their fitness regime whenever is convenient to them as the new gym is open 24/7.

“We have listened to the feedback from local residents and businesses when we carried out our public consultation into what makes a good town centre in 2020.  Our plans to develop Kirkby are continuing and I’m really proud of what we have achieved in the last few years since we purchased the town centre.  Indeed, recent national research suggests that Knowsley is one of the top three local authority area in the country in terms of recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, largely driven by a 25% increase in spending in Kirkby, thanks to the improved offer in the town.”

A PureGym spokesperson added: “We have seen sustained demand for our affordable fitness facilities across the country, with more people recognising the benefits of exercise to their physical and mental health.  We are therefore delighted to be bringing a brand new fitness facility to the town of Kirkby.  PureGym Kirkby is open 24/7 and offers members access to low price state-of-the-art fitness facilities whenever they choose.  We look forward to welcoming members to PureGym Kirkby.”
