Public Health annual report

by Laura Johnston

The theme for Knowsley’s Public Health Annual Report 2016/17 is ‘Age Well’.  The report highlights the importance of Public Health interventions to provide support which will improve the health and wellbeing of over 65s.

The annual report covers positive ageing, poverty and cold homes, mental health and wellbeing, dementia, lifestyle choices, oral health, preventing hospital admissions and promoting independence, safeguarding and long standing health problems and end of life care.

As life expectancy in the borough increases, the proportion of older people increases, and we have a projected 41% increase in adults aged over 65 by 2030 and a 66% rise in the population aged over 80 years. Whilst this is great news, we now need to ensure we have appropriate plans in place to support our residents and their families.
