Prescot ‘Clean in 15’ initiative

by Lisa Bennett

A new initiative has been set up in Prescot town centre to help keep the main high street clean and tidy.

‘Clean in 15’ takes place every Friday afternoon where local business owners, residents and members of the community come together and spend 15 minutes of their time to tidy up and clean the main high street in the town centre.

The initiative started in April and has so far involved a number of Prescot’s independent businesses including Rogues and Rascals, Morecrofts, GCH Photography, Jessie and Co, Down In Albion, The HairShack, Kumon Prescot, The Deanes House, Girls on Top and also the council’s Town Centres Management team.

Louise Gillespie from Jessie and Co. has been instrumental in establishing the new Prescot Business Club and encouraging people to take part in the Clean in 15. She commented:

“This new initiative is a great way for the Prescot business community and residents to come together to give our town centre some extra care and attention and to encourage everyone to have pride in the place where they live and do business.

“15 minutes isn’t a huge demand on people’s time but with everyone coming together it can make a huge difference to our town.”

The equipment to support this initiative was bought with a grant from the Ministries of Housing, Communities and Local Government which has allocated funding to help local authorities and community groups to clean up high streets and town centres.

The scheme runs every Friday afternoon and meets at the corner of Leyland Street and Eccleston Street in Prescot town centre. All volunteers are welcome to get involved. The scheme has been well supported by Prescot Business Club.
