Play safe when visiting parks

by Cathy Sheel

With the re-opening of playgrounds and outdoor gyms from 4 July, it’s important we remember to put safety first when visiting our parks.
The easing of lockdown rules means that from Saturday individuals and families will be able to use play equipment and outdoor gyms for the first time since Coronavirus restrictions were introduced in March this year.
But it’s vital we do all we can to stay safe and help prevent the spread of the virus while using the playground and gym areas.
Park visitors will be reminded to still observe 2m social distancing, or where that isn’t possible 1m plus, and to clean their hands both before and after using park equipment.
And there are other measures we can follow to keep everyone safe:
– To allow social distancing please don’t overcrowd the playground or outdoor gym.
– In playgrounds, just one family member should accompany a child, and just one child should use a piece of play                     equipment at a time.
– If other people are waiting to use the playground, please be considerate and limit the time spent using the play                   equipment                                                                                                                                                                – At busy times, please form an orderly and socially distanced queue so everyone gets their turn.
– If possible adopt a ‘one way system’ when using outdoor gym equipment and don’t return to a piece of equipment you’ve      already used.
– Carry cleansing wipes or hand sanitiser and wipe down any handles or surfaces you may have touched before and after          use.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “While many of us will welcome enjoying new freedoms with the easing of lockdown measures and will be looking forward to visiting playgrounds and outdoor gyms, we must remember that we all have a part to play in keeping ourselves and others safe.
“Following the guidance will ensure we are able to achieve social distancing, maintain an effective cleansing regime and prevent any further spread of the virus.”
