As part of the Council’s ambitious development plans for Huyton village centre, an application for prior approval has been submitted to demolish the existing multi-storey car park.
The demolition of this car park is a key part of the development plans and it will be replaced with a new sustainable travel hub which will serve Huyton Village. If approval is provided, the demolition works are scheduled to take place next year.
The travel hub will ultimately provide hundreds of short and long stay parking spaces, including designated disabled bays and electric charging points, as well as new lighting, security and better connections to Derby Road and Huyton bus and rail stations.
The transformation of the multi-storey car park is part of the Council’s ambitious plans for Huyton Village Centre and follows the Council receiving the green light following a ‘change of use’ planning application to transform vacant units in Cavendish Walks in the heart of the town centre into a community hub. Work has started on this transformation with the community hub opening next year.
Other plans for Huyton Village include the development of a mixed use commercial district, called St Michael’s Place, which will include office space and residential accommodation, and the creation of an attractive new Village Green which will connect improved public spaces, an improved station gateway area and a new high quality public realm on Derby Road.
The demolition of the existing multi storey car park is being funded through the £19.1m secured via Homes England’s Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land fund.
