Two of Knowsley’s longest-standing parks’ volunteers groups have achieved milestone anniversaries – celebrating 55 years of service to the borough’s green spaces.
The Friends of Court Hey Park celebrated 30 years since the group was founded and The Littlewoods of Stockbridge Association has celebrated its 25-year anniversary.
The ‘Friends of Court Hey Park’ is a volunteer group which was formally constituted in 1995 from a group of local residents who loved and cared for Court Hey Park, off Roby Road, Huyton.
The group have met regularly ever since and are pivotal to the success of the park –organising an annual events programme which attracts thousands of visitors from Knowsley and beyond.
Since its creation in 2000, The ‘Littlewoods of Stockbridge Association’ has championed Little Wood in Stockbridge and also operates a Wildlife Watch Group and Junior Ranger Programme.
To mark its anniversary, group members past and present welcomed partners to a celebration event last month which included the planting of a tree to mark the occasion.
Recognising the achievements of both groups, Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “Volunteer groups are so important to our greenspaces, and the Council applauds the milestones achieved by these two long-standing groups.
“Thank you to all our volunteer groups who work tirelessly to support us in maintaining and celebrating Knowsley’s Green Spaces.”
More anniversaries are upcoming, with another volunteer group ‘Court Hey Healthy Walkers’ also celebrating their 20th anniversary next month.
