Following a call-out earlier this year, eleven owl and pussy-cat sculptures have found new homes at locations across the borough.
Knowsley Council’s Culture Team invited expressions of interest from local businesses, organisations and public settings to play host to a sculpture between February and May of this year.
Initially, there were just eight sculptures up for grabs, but the quality of the applications was so high that the team released an additional three sculptures to meet demand.
You’ll find the sculptures at:
- Yew Tree Coffee Barn in Halewood
- Halewood Library
- Livv Housing’s offices in Prescot
- The Clock Pub in Prescot
- Centre 63 in Kirkby
- Kirkby Market
- Acorn Farm in Kirkby
- Incredible Edible at Court Hey Park
- Maria Fogg Family Law in Huyton Village
- Bowring Park Coach House, Huyton
- Willowbrook charity shop, Stockbridge Village
The owl and pussy-cat sculptures were created as part of Knowsley’s year as the Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture and commemorated Edward Lear’s world famous, ‘The Owl and The Pussy-Cat’ which was written at Knowsley Hall.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Communities said: “We have had such a fantastic response to the call-out for local organisations to foster these beloved sculptures and we are delighted to have been able to extend the number of owls and pussy-cat’s going out into the world for this unique project.”
In addition to the eleven sculptures out on loan in the community, a number of sculptures have been returned to libraries, leisure centres, train stations and council buildings.
Over the next two years the sculptures will be found across our town centres throughout the summer months. This summer you will find them in Huyton town centre, and then in Halewood.
