Owl and Pussycat take up residence in Halewood Oaks

by Lisa Bennett

Two of Knowsley’s iconic owl and pussycat sculptures have taken residence at Bellway’s Halewood Oaks development on Bailey’s Lane in Halewood.

The striking sculptures inspired by the famous Edward Lear poem are currently on a summer tour around Knowsley and have arrived at the new build housing development following seven weeks in Huyton.

Originally created to celebrate Knowsley’s year as the Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture in 2022, there are now 29 sculptures in the popular trail, each with a unique design that reflects a part of Knowsley’s history and culture.

Brightening up the grassy area outside the Bellway sales office and providing an eye-catching welcome to Halewood Oaks are two colourful sculptures, ‘Owl Edward’ by Andrea Danisman and ‘Coco Cat’ by Cherie Grist.

Both are a key part of the public art trail that runs until the end of September and have proved popular with visitors to the beautiful new build development, many of whom have been taking photos and selfies with the sculptures.

Sales director Jenny Bell commented:

“We’re delighted to host an owl and pussycat here at Halewood Oaks. Halewood Oaks and our Plummers Meadow development, which is less than a mile away, are both fast taking shape and will form vibrant new communities in Knowsley. It’s great to be included in this exciting local project and we’ve enjoyed welcoming visitors to site to see the sculptures and tick them off on the trail.”

Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, Cllr Shelley Powell, added:

“The sculptures have received a wonderful reception so far in Knowsley.  Public art trails like this are fun for all ages and a great way to get out and explore the local area and our thanks go to Bellway for hosting Owl Edward and Coco Cat.”
