Online gallery celebrates the flowers, plants & home grown veggies of lockdown

by Gemma Melling

With the Knowsley Flower Show not able to go ahead in person this year, instead you can enjoy a virtual stroll around the gardens of hundreds of local people who’ve been busy growing during lockdown.

The online Knowsley Flower Show exhibition: “Blooming Marvellous” goes live this weekend – when the popular event should have been taking place – and features hundreds of plants, seedlings, shrubs, flowers and home grown vegetables and fruit that have been lovingly tended in gardens all over the borough, and beyond!

The online Flower Show has also been a fantastic way to capture the very unique times we have been living through. Many of the images submitted for the exhibition were taken on daily walks during lockdown – they capture the nature and scenery that people really came to appreciate, more than ever. Many of the contributors also added captions to their images to sum up and explain what their garden, daily walk or outdoor time meant to them, and how it had helped their mental health during the lockdown.

With more than 350 stunning photographs featured in the Blooming Marvellous exhibition there’s unlikely to be a nicer way to while away the hours browsing the internet than visiting the online Knowsley Flower Show.

Will your plants or garden be featured?

More than 150 people responded to the call out to send pictures of their gardens and what they have been growing, shortly after the decision was made that the Flower Show sadly could not go ahead in person this year.

The pictures capture such a wide range of gardens, gardening styles and different plants, flowers, colours and produce, they cannot fail to put a smile on your face. From begonias and berries to sunflowers and tomatoes, make sure you take a look and see what has been growing in your neighbours’ gardens!

If you are one of the hundreds of contributors to the online Blooming Marvellous gallery – THANK YOU! Don’t forget to go and have a look to see your plants and flowers featured – and send your friends a link to make sure they take a look too!

The Flower Show online exhibition will go live on Friday afternoon, 7 August at www.knowsleyflowershow.com – don’t miss it.
