Work is underway to deliver the latest phase of improvements to Old Rough Park in Kirkby.
Following last year’s consultation on an improvement and play area masterplan for the park, works have begun on site to bring improvements to the entrances, create a wetland area – to help alleviate flooding of the paths – introduce new bins and benches, as well as wildflower meadows.
To establish the wildflower meadows, contractors will spray the area, they will then return to site to sow the seed. The spraying will cause the grass to die back and appear yellow – this is part of the process in order to kill off competitive grasses. It will return as part of the seeding of the wildflowers.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods visited Old Rough Park to meet with local councillors and members of the community, who have helped shape the proposals, and representatives from McDermott Homes to discuss the proposals and see the start of works.
The works are being funded by developer contributions secured by the council from McDermott Homes as part of the nearby Mulberry Park development.
Follow on works to create two new play areas at the Old Rough Lane section of the park will begin later this spring and be completed before the summer holidays.
