Nuisance drivers caught on Council CCTV at Cables Retail Park

by Jonathan Kearney

Anti-social drivers accessing Cables Retail Park late at night have been penalised by Merseyside Police after being caught on camera by the Council’s CCTV control room.

Local residents have been complaining about late night disturbances in and around the Retail Park of cars beeping their horns and carrying out anti-social behaviour.

Last week, in the early hours of Thursday 14 May, the Council’s CCTV control room alerted local police to drivers on the car park at Cables causing a noise nuisance and acting anti-socially.

As a result:

  • One male who ran away from police was arrested and later summonsed for failure to stop, driving without a license and without insurance
  • One vehicle owner was issued a fixed penalty notice for permitting the use of a motor vehicle without third party insurance
  • One female driver was issued a Section 59 Notice for anti-social driving, which means they risk having their vehicle seized if they commit a similar offence
  • One male was given a S59 Notice and issued a fixed penalty notice for driving without due care and attention
  • Another driver was issued a fixed penalty notice for driving with no insurance and issued with a S59 notice for anti-social driving.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said: “Anti-social behaviour and inconsiderate drivers have been causing a nuisance for local residents around Cables Retail Park when businesses are closed. Our Crime and Communities team have been working closely with the management team at the Retail Park and community safety partners at Merseyside Police to help tackle the issue. Residents can be reassured that with close partnership working, people causing a disturbance in this way will be caught and face the consequences.”

CCTV

Knowsley has a CCTV network of more than 1,150 cameras, monitored 24/7. The Council Control room has direct access to Merseyside Police’s Command and Control Room, which means the police can be immediately notified of any incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour occurring and police patrols can be deployed accordingly.
