NHS Omicron PCR test scam

by Guy Murphy

Knowsley Council is warning residents to be vigilant to fake messaging around the Omicron variant of COVID-19 and PCR testing.

The scam encourages people to apply for free PCR tests and claims the current testing kits do not pick up the Omicron variant. The fake messaging links to a non-official ‘dedicated’ Omicron test kit ordering website.

If you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been asked to carry out a PCR test by an official body like NHS Test and Trace or your child’s school, you should apply for a test on GOV.UK or by calling 119.

There is no separate website address or phone number for Omicron PCR testing.

Please do not apply for tests by any other route, even if the email or request looks genuine.

PCR tests are free, unless they are private tests linked to foreign travel.
