Following the demolition of the former National Wildflower Centre, Knowsley Council has appointed contractors to deliver a landscape improvement project within the heart of the park.
These works will include:
- Landscaping, pond improvement works, and surfacing of the new public realm between the Court Yard and Sunken rose garden
- New boundary fencing and entrance created for Incredible Edible Knowsley CIC
- The re-siting of the Friends of Court Hey containers within the Forest School Area, new boundary fencing and entrance for the Forest School Area
- Removal of the former millennium building gates, opening the new area into the park, and creating improved pedestrian access from the Court Yard / Cricket Pavilion to the Sunken rose garden and park beyond
- Improvements to the Park entrance at Glynn Grove
- Replacement of all knee-high timber fencing within the park
The works will begin from Monday 15 June 2026 and are scheduled to be completed by the end of August – there will be a break over the Feelgood Festival and Knowsley Flower Show which takes place on 1 and 2 August 2026.
The works are part of the council’s ambitious plans for its parks and green spaces and following the development of a masterplan for Court Hey Park – funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2023.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said: “I’m delighted to see the next phase of improvement works at Court Hey Park progress. It’s a place full of rich history and heritage and a great community hub for meeting up. We want to ensure that it provides the very best facilities for our communities and I’m delighted that our masterplan is progressing to the next phase of works.”
In addition to these works, the council and the Friends of Court Hey Park are working together to secure funding to deliver a play improvement plan for the play area within the park, following the installation of the new play train earlier this year. Further details will be shared as this project progresses.
