New town centre location for Change Grow Live in Kirkby

by Guy Murphy

Representatives from Knowsley Council and partner organisations came together to officially open the new Change Grow Live Hub at Newton Gardens in Kirkby.

Change Grow Live offers a wealth of advice and support services around drugs and alcohol as well as support for those accessing the service to live a happier and healthier life.

Previously based on Lifton Road, Change Grow Live has transformed the building – which was in need of a full renovation – into a modern, welcoming and inclusive space, that is easy for service users to access.

The hub features improved private clinical rooms, meeting spaces and a comfortable reception area where visitors can enjoy a hot drink and a chat with someone who understands the journey that they are on. Many of the staff and volunteers have lived experience and know what it’s like to ask for help and can listen and support without judgement.

Services available at the Newton Gardens hub, include:

  • Open access times – you don’t need an appointment
  • One-to-one counselling and therapeutic support
  • IPS (Individual Placement and Support) – helping people move forward with specialist support to find and stay in employment
  • Families and Carers support

The move to Newton Gardens is part of a commitment to making services more approachable, compassionate and person-centred. The location will also allow CGL staff to undertake more outreach activities in Kirkby and the surrounding areas.

Cllr Christine Bannon, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, said: “Drug and alcohol dependency has a huge impact on the individual as well as their friends, family and the wider community.

“The council and our partners all have a role to play in ensuring residents can access the support they need as early as possible. That is why the Combating Drugs Partnership has worked so hard and support the significant investment required to open this fantastic facility in Kirkby.

“I’m delighted the service is now up and running. Newton Gardens provides service users with a positive, welcoming location where they will feel valued, listened to and respected throughout their recovery journey.”

Lisa Mawdsley, Service Manager at Change Grow Live, said: “We are a service for all ages and with our team of specialist workers including our Young persons and outreach team, we are able to meet you where you are at, including community venues and in your home if you are unable to access the service.’’

Change Grow Live at Newtown Gardens is open from 8.30am until 5pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and from 9.00am until 7pm on Tuesday.
