New parking restrictions to be trialled in Prescot town centre

by Gemma Melling

New parking restrictions aimed at improving access to local businesses in Prescot Town Centre are to be trialled from Friday, 20 September.

The new arrangements come as a result of feedback from traders in the town centre that parked cars are causing problems for delivery vehicles dropping off or collecting goods to premises on Leyland Street and Eccleston Street. To address this, the council will be turning Leyland Street into a loading only area between 8am-6pm from Monday – Saturday.

In addition, parking, loading and unloading will not be allowed at any time on Hill Street.

Clear signage is being installed in the town centre to explain the changes to motorists and the new restrictions will be supported by frequent patrols by the council’s Enforcement Officers.

The council will be monitoring the effectiveness of the trial and will be gathering feedback from the community and local businesses before making a decision about whether the new restrictions should become permanent.

Where to park in Prescot

There are a number of council-owned and privately run car parks in Prescot – view details of all the car parks.

Blue Badge spaces are available at Mill Street, Cyprus Street, and Moss Street car parks. The usual blue badge parking exemptions apply to restricted roads in surrounding area.

You can also view the current parking or waiting restrictions on any of Knowsley’s roads.

How can I give my feedback on the new parking restrictions?
