New online taxi licensing application process launched today

by Jonathan Kearney

Knowsley Council’s Licensing Service has launched a new online taxi licensing system to assist drivers with taxi and private hire applications.

This online service is in response to feedback received from drivers meaning they have greater flexibility to apply or renew their license at a time to suit them as well as also being able to upload evidence and pay online too.

Applying online can be done at time and location to suit you and it’s available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Borough’s libraries also offer free PC and WiFi access. You can find the library opening times on the Council’s website.

Help and support is still available if needed through pre-arranged face-to-face appointments.

The new system is designed to be easy to use and includes video guides and helpful hints to assist drivers when applying and renewing a licence and also how to upload evidence to support their application.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said: “We have listened to the feedback from our licensed taxi drivers who have asked us to explore an online service to apply for or renew their taxi license. As a result I’m delighted to launch our new online service which offers greater flexibility for our drivers and they are able to access the service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Cllr Terry Powell, Chairman of Knowsley Council’s Licensing Committee added: “The COVID–19 pandemic has created challenges for everyone, including the processing of license applications. I’m delighted to offer this service online which will make it easier and quicker to obtain a licence moving forward”.
