Local residents are already benefiting from the new town centre retail development in Kirkby Town Centre by securing employment opportunities.
Earlier this summer KFC became the first unit to open in the new development, with 64% of the new jobs created being filled by local residents. Taco Bell also opened this week with 96% of roles being filled by Kirkby residents.
Morrisons has recently opened its recruitment window for the Kirkby store. To date, Kirkby’s new Morrisons store has interviewed 303 people of which 99% were from within ten miles of Kirkby, and 84% within three miles.
The interviews include roles in Customer Services, Community Champions and Team Leaders.
The supermarket established a recruitment hub in the town centre, with the Council’s Knowsley Works team offering support to residents with applications and interview preparation. You can see the current list of vacancies for the Kirkby store on the Morrisons jobs website.
This week Morrisons new staff are undergoing inductions to prepare for their new roles.
Edward Pritchard, Store Manager at Morrisons Kirkby said:
“The community is a huge part of who we are and what we do at Morrisons. We are committed to recruiting as many local people from Kirkby and the surrounding area as possible to ensure our new store is at the heart of the local community”.
Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, added:
“The new retail development is expected to create 500 jobs once completed and I’m delighted to see that many of the vacancies to date have been filled by local people.
“The supermarket is something our residents have been asking for and it has been delivered in less than two years from the Council taking ownership of the town centre.
“We have ambitious plans for Kirkby and as you can see with the new retail development, we have a successful track record for delivering our plans.”
Running alongside the construction of the retail development (which includes Morrisons, Taco Bell, KFC and Home Bargains), plans are now progressing on the next phase of Kirkby Town Centre’s development which includes a multi-screen cinema with new food and drink outlets.
