New health app for parents and carers in Knowsley

by Laura Johnston

A new app for Knowsley parents or carers of children up to the age of five is now available to download providing them with the information to decide when their child needs medical treatment or if self-care is more appropriate.

The CATCH (Common Approach to Children’s Health) app is available to download from the App Store or Google Play. It’s a fantastic source of information for parents and carers of children under the age of 5 and aims to give them the confidence and knowledge to identify and treat common ailments. In addition, the app provides prompts for key dates for developmental checks and immunisations and advice when medical attention may be more appropriate than self-care at home.

CATCH will help parents to navigate those challenging early years and give each child the best possible start in life.

Once you download the app, you can create profiles for your children, using their name, gender and date of birth or due date (if you are expectant). CATCH will then provide you with a list of health articles most relevant to your child’s age, tailored to suit them as they grow.

CATCH will also provide health information from your area such as bank holiday, pharmacy opening times or urgent health news.  There’s also a useful map of the local health and social care services available in your area, including your nearest GP, dentist and pharmacy.

Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said “This is a fantastic resource to support parents from pregnancy through to the age of five years. It helps to identify and treat common ailments as well as helping parents to navigate those challenging early years and give your child the best possible start in life. As well as providing a wealth of information, it also provides reassurance too in helping you to decide if your child needs medical attention. If you haven’t already, download the app today!”
