New books for new school year

by Laura Johnston

Some primary school children, including those at St Mary & St Paul’s C of E Primary School, have started their new school year with a range of new books to enjoy, thanks to a local teaching training partnership.

Mersey Boroughs Initial Teacher Training Partnership works in close partnership with around 30 schools across Merseyside to provide a School Direct PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) course and train future primary school teachers on the job. The partnership is led by St Mary & St Paul’s C of E Primary School in Prescot, and is based at the Acorn Centre, a training centre in Whiston.

Staff at Mersey Boroughs are passionate about enhancing the training opportunities for trainees and learning opportunities for the pupils. As part of their commitment in doing this, staff delivered books to all of their partner schools in time for children to come back to school after the summer holidays.

Mr Paul Brooksbank, Acting Headteacher at St Mary & St Paul’s C of E Primary School, said: “It’s a real treat that we have had all these new books donated to school, the children will really enjoy reading and using the books in their lessons. Trainee teachers from Mersey Boroughs working in our school will also be able to use the books when planning and delivering their lessons.”
