New bar in Huyton Village Centre proving popular

by Jonathan Kearney

Huyton Village Centre’s burgeoning hospitality sector has been boosted by the arrival of a new bar.

Dos Urbano opened around two months ago in the unit formerly occupied by Barnados on Derby Road following a successful crowdfunding campaign.

The venue was able to open its doors just before Christmas 2023 after securing over £4,000 through its crowdfunding campaign.

People were able to contribute to the crowdfunding by purchasing vouchers or discount cards that can be redeemed at the new venue.

Owner Claire Wilson said: “The crowdfunding idea has worked out really well. People have been really sweet about using the vouchers, saying they didn’t want to use them straight away while we got up and running. But it’s going really well, particularly of a weekend.”

Claire, along with co-owner Peter Stewart, previously owned Urbano Chiringuito in Prescot. She said they are now welcoming many of their previous customers to their Huyton venture.

Claire said: “We’ve had lots of our old customers from Prescot come in. Many of them live in Huyton. We’re finding customers will book a restaurant in Huyton while they’re having a drink with us or they might come in to the bar after finishing a meal. The restaurants are often really busy and now people have somewhere to go for a drink afterwards. So it’s benefiting all the businesses in Huyton Village during the evening.”

Claire added: “People have commented what a nice, laid-back place it is to have a drink. The customers feel relaxed in the bar because they can sit back and have a chat. They have been really good helping to grow word of mouth by tagging us on social media while they’re in there. Hopefully as the weather warms up we can attract even more new customers!”

Dos Urbano on 56 Derby Road is currently open Thursday to Sunday.
