This National Recovery Month, Knowsley Council is reminding residents that recovery from addiction is possible, and support is available to make the change and help them rebuild their lives.
Over the course of the month, the Council will be sharing lived-experience stories from service users to highlight the dangers of drug use and the impact it can have on the lives of people living with addiction and those around them.
Every person’s recovery journey is different. In Knowsley, Change Grow Live (CGL) provide drug and alcohol support services to anyone aged 10+. Support is tailored to each person’s needs, depending on their situation and the goals they want to achieve. Plans are developed with the person and professionals, and they are regularly reviewed.
Support can include: –
- Medical interventions and substitute prescribing
- Detox options and tailored programmes
- A needle exchange including harm reduction advice
- One to one support with an allocated recovery coordinator
- Group programmes designed to help people understand how drugs and alcohol affect their brain, body and mental health.
- Access to a qualified nursing team and blood-borne virus screening
- Ongoing recovery support to help people maintain stability and structure throughout their recovery journey.
- Access to employment, training and education specialists
Cllr Christine Bannon, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, said: “Recovery is a long-term journey and is different for every person. In Knowsley, our partners at CGL provide a comprehensive range of support services which are tailored to the individual and ensures that they have the tools to succeed.
“To every Knowsley resident who is battling addiction, remember that support is available. You are not alone.”

More about National Recovery Month
Now in its 36th year, Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery, just as we celebrate improvements made by those who are managing other health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease.
Each September, Recovery Month works to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the emergence of a strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and community members across the nation who make recovery in all its forms possible.
