The council’s development plans for Huyton Village Centre have taken another step forward with a further phase of shop fronts nearing completion, along with new businesses opening their doors.
Here’s what’s been happening:
Lots of the shops have a sleek new look
Following the success of the phase one shop front improvement scheme which has seen five properties transformed with contemporary façades on Derby Road, the scaffolding on a further five properties has started to be taken down this week.
This latest block of shops on Derby Road includes Hays Travel (formerly Thomas Cook), the newly opened Coffee House, Millicans opticians, Huyton News (formerly Bargain Booze) and the former Greenhalghs which is soon to be occupied by The Big Help Project.
Once complete, these latest properties will have had replacement windows and doors installed, brickwork repaired and painted along with the installation of new signage and feature lighting.
A further phase of the programme will commence in the New Year with exciting details of the next shop fronts to be transformed announced soon.
New shops and eateries are opening
The village centre has recently welcomed two new businesses.
The Coffee House, which opened its doors over the weekend, has created a new attraction in the village centre offering an extensive breakfast, lunch, dessert and beverage menu. It has also created 11 new job opportunities locally. The council’s Knowsley Works team worked with the management team at The Coffee House to help them with their recruitment and selection process.
Hays Travel has also opened in the last few days, occupying the former Thomas Cook shop.
Another business is also due to open in time for Christmas. El Pueblo, a tapas wine bar, is finalising its transformation and will complement Eton Place at the top end of Derby Road. El Pueblo will also be home to Eton Express offering an extensive take-away menu from the popular Mediterranean restaurant Eton Place.
Huyton Live has been a great success
Plus, if that’s not all, the final Huyton Live event for 2019 takes place on Friday, 20 December 2019, bringing a distinct festive feel to the village centre. As well as offering great street food, drinks and live entertainment, there will also be a festive outdoor market to grab any last-minute Christmas presents.
… And there’s more to come in 2020
Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “I’m delighted with the progress we have made in Huyton Village Centre in such a short space of time.
“We will continue to build on this momentum in the New Year and I look forward to seeing further shop fronts being transformed as well as more businesses opening here in Huyton with Common (pizza and cocktail bar) due to open in 2020.”
