Following approval at the Council’s Planning Committee last year, work has now started on site for a new development in Kirkby providing extra care homes as well as affordable homes.
Liverpool Mutual Homes is transforming a disused brownfield site on Westhead Avenue in Kirkby into high quality housing and supported living accommodation for some of the area’s elderly and vulnerable people.
The state-of-the-art extra care facility, called The Maples, will includes 100 one and two bed apartments, alongside 38 homes for affordable rent.
Extra care offers all of the benefits of independent living in a modern, self-contained apartment. A specialist on-site support team is available 24 hours a day who can be accessed via phone, in person or with a personal alarm.
The Maples will also have a range of communal facilities including a bistro-style restaurant, hair and beauty salon, lounges, gardens and courtyard space.
Councillor Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said “I look forward to see this latest extra care development take shape, providing more choice for our residents who need support and reassurance to live independently.”
